The Observatory complements the Professional ones at
Siding Spring in the
Warrumbungles. It is open to the Public for viewing of both the day
and night skies.
We are open to the public each night, catering for the individual, groups and tours. On our school resources page there is an Excursion Risk Management Plan for visiting schools to download. During winter from 7pm till 10pm. For daylight saving we
open 8:30pm till 10pm. For more information on days and other times go

The Observatory has operated since 1975. It was
built by a retired farmer, Jack Estens. Located in the centre of
Gilgandra just off the Newell Highway, our central location provides
good access from motels and still provides us with excellent views
of the night sky.
